Lynn State Reservation and Nahant Beach are different parts of the same peninsula and spreads out for about 4 miles along the road to Nahant. It’s a lovely beach with some other great facilities available for use year round as well. Available activities include the following:
- Swimming and Beach Area: Nahant Beach is 4 miles long and, even at high
tide, quite wide so there is plenty of room for everyone to spread out out with a little under half the beach guarded during busy season.
- Biking, Walking and Rollerblading Path: There is a 4 mile path that runs the length of the beach that is popular with walkers, bikers and rollerbladers; mostly during warmer weather.
- Playground and Tot Lot Area: There is a nice playground area for little kids to enjoy.
- Ballfields nearby: There are ballfields and a few other facilities nearby including raquetball and tennis.
Facilities, fees and other information: There are a couple bathhouses and restroom facilities on either end of the beach. Parking shouldn’t be an issue as there are tons of spaces. During high summer season (roughly late May to early September) a parking fee (currently $3) is charged. On a busy day the concession stands might be open.
Directions: Nahant Beach is located off of the Lynnway (Route 1A). Follow signs for Nahant that will take you onto Nahant Road. You’ll get onto Nahant Road and take a left to turn around at the end of the causeway and after you turn around the beach will be on your right. Nahant Beach is also accesible via public transportation. The nearest commuter rail stop appeared to be Central Sqauare in Lynn. Busses 441 and 442 will also get you here from Wonderland Station off the Blue Line. For more information, including a route planner, go to the MBTA’s website (www.mbta.com).
